Artist Profile

My name is Christian Morgan and I am a Fine Art painter currently working in Acrylics. My childhood growing up in the Pacific Northwest and my adult life in the Desert Southwest have greatly influenced the artwork I produce. I love the abundant greenery of the Northwest and the majestic spaces of the Southwest. Both are beautiful in completely unique ways.
My wife and I have now lived in this magnificent desert for over 30 years. We reside in the city of Rio Rancho , New Mexico, overlooking the Rio Grande valley. I am retired from working as a structural designer for an engineering firm and am now able to devote myself fully to painting and travel.
My formal training began at age 11 at the Derbyshire School of Fine Art in Seattle, Washington. Over the next 8 years I learned the art of drawing, composition, and painting in oils. The focus was on still lifes, portraits, and landscapes. My teacher and mentor, Leon F. Derbyshire, was well known locally and was an accomplished artist in his own right. He honed his skills working under prominent impressionists at the turn of the century in England, France, Italy and the U.S. He was heavily influenced by work of Nicolai Fechin. I will always treasure the years he spent instilling in me a love of painting. He inspired me to see light and shadow in new ways. He was always free in sharing his wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for art.
I now paint with acrylics on canvas focusing primarily on landscapes. I try to bring to my choice of compositions an immediacy to the joy and wonder found in creation. The natural world is a beautiful thing and my intent is to bring that beauty into each painting. Enjoy!
